What Is an Anti-freeze Valve?
An anti-freeze valve (also called a freeze protection valve or automatic drain valve) protects heating and solar systems from frost damage. When the ambient temperature drops below a set point (typically 2–4°C / 35–39°F), the valve automatically opens and drains water from the pipe or manifold, preventing burst pipes and costly repairs.
How Does a Freeze Protection Valve Work?
The valve contains a temperature-sensitive element. As temperature falls, the element expands and lifts the seal, allowing water to discharge through the drain port. Once the temperature rises again the valve reseals. This passive, automatic operation makes the anti-freeze valve ideal for holiday homes, attics, garages and any circuit that may be left unheated in winter.
